OUR QUICK, EASY GUIDE TO TREATING ACNE SCARS

The best treatment for acne scars and how to avoid them.

Having pimples is tough enough, but dealing with the scars left after a pimple has long cleared is often more annoying than the pimples themselves.

WHAT ARE ACNE SCARS?

Acne scars are textural changes that occur in the skin as a result of cells being damaged, which are often seen in acne-prone skin. There are many different types of acne scars - some are permanent and some fade over time. If you are someone who struggles with scarring, here is our easy guide to determining which scars you have, how to best treat them, and how you can prevent them in the future.

TYPES OF ACNE SCARS

  •  Macules These are flat, red spots where a pimple was once located, and can remain visible for months after a pimple has healed. Unlike other acne scarring they are not permanent.
  •  Ice-pick - These acne scars are tiny, narrow, deep, vertical and cylindrical in shape.
  •  Boxcar - Wider than ice pick scars, boxcar scars give the skin an uneven, pitted appearance. These scars are round or oval depressions with steep vertical sides.
  •  Soft rolling - Rolling scars differ from boxcar scars in that they aren't sharply defined. The skin itself looks uneven in texture. These scars cause rolling or wave-like depressions across otherwise normal-looking skin.

THE BEST TREATMENT FOR ACNE SCARS AND HOW TO AVOID THEM

FACT

80% of people are affected by acne at some point, and 15% of people with untreated acne are left with acne scars.

HOW BEST TO AVOID ACNE SCARRING

  •  No picking // No popping. When your skin is in ‘repair mode’ it produces new skin cells to heal the affected area. If you pick your skin during this process it can cause permanent scarring.
  •  Avoid drying and weakening the skin with harsh products that contain Benzoyl Peroxide and Salicylic Acid as it slows down the healing process and makes it harder for the skin to repair itself.
  •  Treat acne as soon as it develops with our 3-Step program – this helps to not only prevent acne from forming but it also helps reduce inflammation and allows your skin to heal and repair faster.
  •  Massaging the affected area when cleansing increases the blood flow to your skin which removes toxins, increases oxygen and delivers a fresh batch of nutrients to your skin cells.
  •  HYDRATE your skin! Well hydrated skin heals faster.
  •  Avoid excessive sun exposure for 2 reasons...
    1. 1. Strong, harmful UV rays can weaken your skin, slowing down the healing process.
    2. 2. The new fragile skin cells are sensitive and can burn more easily which can make your scar appear more obvious.
